The process begins by hand sanding the egg until it is silky smooth, removing all the bumps and grooves. making it so that the pores are barely noticeable. It also reveals a deeper, chaulkier layer of the egg that will allow the dyes to take more evenly and with greater intensity.
The "Tree of Life" is the 3rd installment in the "Persian Rug" series of eggs and only the 10th egg that I have released to the public this year. It is by far the largest and most detailed egg that I have yet to create in my career as an artist.
The design features four medallions surrounded by swirling vines/branches draped in a multitude of different types of flowes, buds, stems and leaves. The colors are quite remarkable on this egg and a close up view is the only real way to appreciate the finer elements. The egg is etched to enhance the design, some areas are raised against the background to create a three dimensional effect.
