"'Pink Hollyhocks' stand tall and gracefully before a white picket fence. These midsummer beauties always remind me of grandma's home on the farm in Oregon."
Artist comment: "This tall narrow watercolor painting is one of a three piece set of florals from my Olympia, Washington garden. I chose to depict the 'pink hollyhocks' at their peak. I sketched the composition, then began with a neutral (gray) background, leaving the subject area white. Then I carefully washed in the off-white color of the wooden fence. I began the hollyhocks with the leaves, then the blooms. The calendulas came next, followed by the final accents of rusting nails."
