"The trees are in full leaf, the air is warm, and a tall elegant gladiola spear rises gracefully against the greens, browns, and blues of a 'glad summer' day."
Artist comment: "I grew many flowers in my Olympia, Washington garden, but one of my very favorites was this peach colored gladiola. After making a preliminary sketch on Arches 140# watercolor paper, I washed in a non-obective background of sky, tree, and soil colors. Next I painted the gladiola leaves. The best part was to articulate the blossoms in pink and yellow, from fading blooms to 'ready-to-open' buds. The small white stamens were scratched in after the watercolor dried."
