"Sometimes the afternoon clouds glow with the passing of a storm and seem to be lit from within. High on a windswept cliff, the 'Cape Disappointment' light station is touched by the sunlight that makes the whole scene magically luminous."
Artist comment: "Cape Disappointment Light Station and its companion light, North Head Lighthouse, are both visible from the Pacific Ocean off Washington State's southern-most coast. I have painted each of these beacons in grey, foggy conditions. This past summer, I visited them again, and the weather was sunny and ideal. I researched "Cape D" (as it is affectionately known) from the beach north of the headland. I decided to do the gouache painting in an impressionistic style to bring out the feeling of warmth and comfort the lighthouse conveys as the sun sinks in the West, and a blustery night is about to take over."
