On the calm water of the Columbia River near Astoria, Oregon, the fishing boat 'Pacific Predator' glides down river on its way out to sea.Artist comment: On a wonderful summer morning I took my camera and sketch pad to a spot on the river to observe passing boats to add to my series of paintings of the Astoria Waterfront. This scene of a large fishing boat was a delight to paint with pastel on grey-toned Canson Mi-Teintes paper. After painting the blue sky and water, I put in the distant headland. I started the boat with greys, then proceeded with the rest of the details. Finally, I put in the details of the windows, spars, lines, etc. The reflection in the water was the finishing touch. This image is available as a limited edition giclee print on paper and canvas from an original painting by Carol Thompson.
