Artist comment: Shortly after I began learning about pastel painting, I visited Fort Bragg, California. The Harbor is small and nestled between rising tree-covered hills. There was so much to see that the choice of which boat to focus on was nearly impossible. So I decided to paint the whole panarama of boats, with the willy-nilly placement of shapes and colors. In my studio, I chose a sheet of charcoal gray toned Canson Mi Tientes. The vivid impressionistic colors seem to convey the tension of the busy harbor, while the toned paper minimizes the vibrancy. I like this piece!
