This 24" X 36" acrylic on stretched canvas is the first in a series of new paintings. My early intense study of the life and work of the artist, Amedeo Modigliani, left a lasting impression on me which makes itself felt, to a degree, in this piece. It depicts a woman who is looking into the future. In her hands she is clutching a crystal ball into which she gazes, albeit a little cockeyed, at the world to come. In the sky, on the upper right hand portion of the painting, one can observe part of the universe visible to this inspired creature and on the lower left, in the guise of a tall plant form, is the evolutionary start of all life on the planet. Because the image is painted on gallery wrapped canvas, the edges are painted as well, and as a result, there is no immediate necessity to frame the piece.
