A gull stands on the golden sand of the seashore watching for the slightest changes that may come.
Artist comment: This is a pastel painting of a Heermans gull, a seasonal visitor to the Pacific Northwest. This exceptional gull has a bright red beak and black legs. It is smaller than the common herring gulls that are local residents. I used pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes paper for its smooth ground that allowed me to get the fine detail I needed. I rendered the background in warm tones to exemplify the cools of the gull.
