"The tide is rising and winds begin to gust as a storm blows in from the Northwest. It is an awesome and breathtaking sight to stand at a distance and 'tidal watch'."
Artist comment: "I am always seeking a new approach to my favorite subject, the sea. The idea of depicting the wave from the side has long intrigued me, therefore, I chose that composition for this oil painting on canvas. Because I paint realistically, this was an appropriate venue to show the patterns of foam that float on the surface of the waves after they have crashed against the black rocks found frequently on the wild Northwest Pacific coast. As is my style, I painted the rock with a palette knife to indicate the sharp, roughness of the volcanic formation. The mood is dark, somber, as if the world is waiting for the impending storm to break with all its fury, and send man and bird alike, scurrying for shelter."
