Artist comment: "Sometimes the sea here at the edge of Washington's coast appears predominately blue, as far as the eye can see! I love the way rugged cliffs appear to diminish in the distance. With oil on canvas, I sketch the composition. I began with blue for sky, water, (and later) foam patterns. I began painting from the sky 'forward', each cliff getting darker and more detailed. I painted the background swell and splashes, then the major translucency. When the greens had 'set up' I added the floating foam. I finished with the foreground rocks with runoff."
