"On a high rocky headland stands a tall graceful lighthouse. 'The sentinel' is a never ending guide to mariners on the Pacific off the Oregon coast."
Artist comment: "High on a windswept, picturesque cliff, a beacon of hope and safety shines its light far out to sea, day and night during calm or storm, clear or fog. The sentinel never ceases its vigilance. That is the romantic notion of the world's singular entity, the lighthouse. I have been visiting lighthouses for many years. I love to paint them as I see them, as they are today. Some are not "pretty" any more, but all are special. Each one has a story surrounding it. The lighthouse at Heceta Head on the Oregon coast, is the subject of this oil painting on stretched canvas. It is somewhat visionary, as I projected my imagination to the base of a headland, and visualized what I would see if I were out in the surf looking up at the lighthouse."
