Art: Sunlit Swell by Artist Carol Thompson

"The fog begins to lift on a grey morning revealing a 'sunlit swell' on the morning tide."

Artist comment:  "This is a departure for me from my usual seascape wave.  I became fascinated by the swells rising just off-shore and seeing them covered with foam.  I studied how the circles of water would follow the shape of the swell.  The sun spotlighted this particular feature and it stayed with me.  In my studio, I sketched the dramatic rising water with it's covering of floating foam.  I painted it with a warm white with dark green shapes for the 'holes'.  The background was done in shades of blue to indicate the sea in shadow.  Finally, inside the big 'holes' there was a lacing of fine foam streaks, giving them (the 'holes') a delicate, interesting quality."
