"The wind and rain on the sea have diminished and with 'storm clouds parting', a quiet, perhaps sunny afternoon is on the horizon!"Artist comment: "I love painting oil paintings of the ocean in all her many moods. Here a late afternoon storm breaks up and blue sky appears with the sun very low; spotlighting a rising translucent wave. I began with an idea, sketched it, and immediately began to paint. I liked the effect of a 'hole' in the clouds with dark edges. The strong sunlight behind the translucent wave creates a very dark foam pattern on the curving water. The purples were a great counter point to the yellows and greens. I like having a secondary translucency 'scooting' across the painting" |
