"The black volcanic rocks are inundated by the 'splash and crash' of wind driven waves."
Artist comment: "Some of my most memorable times have been spent at the edge of the sea as a storm blows in and sends waves crashing against the rocks and cliffs of our northwest coast of Washington and Oregon. In this painting, I chose a cliff and offshore stack of black volcanic rock, gray skies, and water with just a hint of deep green to portray the mood. After sketching the composition, I painted the sky and sea with slight variations of gray. The rocks were rendered with a palette knife and allowed to dry while I articulated the foam patterns. Finallly I painted the white water runoff from the rocks and the 'm' birds in the sky."
