"Could it be more perfect, when the sun hangs low over the ocean, turning the sky and water to gold? Seagulls settle down to survey the scene and become part of the rock in 'silhouettes'."
Artist comment: "A dear friend of mine lent me a slide she had taken of a group of seagulls resting on a rock. I was intrigued by the idea of painting the scene as a sunset with the birds and rocks starkly silhouetted against a sunset sky. I challenged myself to paint a scene using primarily yellow and brown and contrasting the warms with the deep blackness of the rocks and gulls. The foam ranges from purple-blue to green-blue to offset all the golden tones in the sky and the surface of the sea."
