Artist comment: "As I sketched this scene, I was awed by the magnificent view before me. The billowing clouds offshore were a splendid foil for the dark silhouette of the stack rocks. I made color notes to refresh my memory when I painted it later in my Olympia, Washington studio. I started with the sky and sea and beach. Lastly, I painted the rocks with palette knife, finishing the details of the reflecive blue on the monolith and gulls in the sky."
