"As the sun rises on the Pacific Northwest Coast, a 'morning breeze' wafts the frothy foam from the top of a rising breaker."
Artist comment: "As I walked on the beach at Ocean Park, Washington, I observed the way the warm early light glanced off the foam just at the crest of the waves. Foam patterns in the trough were still in shadow creating a strong contrast of complimentary colors. Later in my studio, I painted, with oil on canvas, the sky in graduating shades of blue, bringing the colors down onto the surface. Where waves 'peaked' I put the 'sunlight' on their tops. At the top of the translucent wave, it is thin enough to almost see through. I brushed the tops of the wave backward to indicate a breeze (I had fun with the patterns on the face of the breaker --- I painted them just as they were!)."
