The 'Lady Becky' is moving gracefully up the Columbia River towards Astoria, Oregon.
Artist comment: The 'Lady Becky' is a working boat. On a sunny summer afternoon, I watched as she glided in from the Pacific ocean past my vantage point near Astoria, Oregon. I photographed her, then in my studio, using the photographs as reference, I did this painting with soft pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes textured paper. Starting with a detailed sketch, I painted the background trees and water. I finished the setting, then went to work painting this beautiful boat. I did the white first, then carefully painted in the accent reds, the black lines, and lettering and numbers. Lastly I put in the rusty colors and browns, finishing with the spars, lines, windows, and blues.By commenting, you agree to our Community Guidelines.
