A group of interesting seagulls has gathered on the beach of the Pacific Coast. They are Heermanns gulls on the sand.
Artist comment: This composition composed itself when a group of Heermanns gulls paused and looked up as I approached with my camera. These visitors to the north coast of Washington State are unique in that they are all grey on their bodies with a pure white head. The juveniles are mottled like the common gull. The original is a pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. I completed the background, then rendered the birds in realistic detail.
