A cormorant stands on a piling to dry with it's wings 'hanging out' to catch the gentle breeze.
Artist comment: This pastel painting on Canson Mi-Teintes paper was designed to show the actions of this shorebird after an early morning feeding. I depicted the scene in a simplistic manner, painting the sky as the sun was beginning to rise. The bright green of the mossy piling is a perfect foil for the 'blackness' of the cormorant. Pastel was my medium of choice for its soft blending quality and its rich tones. I took particular delight in doing the finishing touches of the bird's face and highlights.By commenting, you agree to our Community Guidelines.
