"Even a day with a 'grey sky' is a joyful experience on the Pacific ocean coast of the Northwest."
Artist comment: "Grey is my favorite color! Really! That is one of the reasons that I live here on the coast. We have many days of rain or overcast skies. This exaggerates the whiteness of the foam and the dark of the deep water. Translucent waves appear yellower. If it isn't yet raining, my camera and I spend time watching the waves and 'locking on' to those moments of breathtaking beauty. Then, in my studio, as I study my photos (and sketches) I choose a scene to paint with oil on canvas. In this case, I placed a large rock on the right side horizon, built a large wave to continue the line of vision, and scattered foam circle openings to lead the eye diagonally across the front of the scene. A few foam patterns on the face of the wave completed the picture."
