Art: FRAKTUR WITH BIRD AND FLOWERS by Artist Theodora Demetriades
The flat colors used in frakturs lend themselves to paper mosaics. The size of an ACEO limits how detailed the design itself can get but nonetheless these are fun to create. This is the first fraktur that I have used such a dark background I was suprised , since it turned out better than I expected. Even though my last name is GReek my background is Polish on both sides of the family. Somehow I think that the wonderful old world Polish designs are steeped in my brain. I can remember my MOM using the old Polish folk designs in her huge ceramic pots. She also would decorate small pieces of furniture with Polish dancers and designs. Frakturs are Pennsylvania Dutch inspired so now I have added a Polish twist to an old art form.
