It depicts the phases of the moon. The waxing, full, and waning moon represent the Maiden (waxing), the Mother (full) and the Crone (waning including the dark of the moon); After the Crone comes the Maiden again forming an eternal cycle of rebirth. This symbol is associated with feminine energy, mystery and psychic abilities.
The Maiden represents birth, youth, innocence, potential, growth toward womanhood. The Mother is fertility, nurturing, sensuality, stability, protection (especially for her young). The Crone is wisdom, mentor, divination, the winter of life, endings.
The waxing moon is for manifestation of goals, positive energy, good health, and desires up to the moment of the full moon. After the moment of full moon the waning moon is for banishment, i.e. bad habits, illness, negative energy/people.
Triple Goddess is also a symbol for chakra healing. Major goddesses such as Isis and Morrigan have all three aspects. Other cultures have a goddess for each aspect, i.e. Persephone (Maiden), Demeter (Mother), and Kali (Crone)
This pin was done to celebrate Heather Mathieson’s ordination. She wears it on her robes now, a place of honor, in my eyes. It was a gift to her from Donna Gill Colestock and me. Donna and I worked together on the design, and I did the fabrication. It is crafted of sterling silver in repousse`, which is the manipulation of a flat sheet of metal into a three dimensional form using a series of punches and a pitch bowl
