This bowl is part of a series of female nude pieces exploring both physical and emotional vulnerabilities in the context of long term relationships. With this piece I tried to convey the confident sexiness of a woman who knows her strengths and how to make the most of them. As with the other pieces, there are physical and emotional parallels. No angst here; she may have some belly rolls, but knows how to work those legs!
This bowl was constructed with Bullseye art glas; meticulously hand cut, ground and assembled then kiln fired to fuse the individual pieces into one sheet of glass, then kiln fired again to slump into an impressive bowl. It is a large and heavy piece; 15" in diameter and 2.5" deep.
The figure is composed of hot red, deep brown and black glass, set against a darker transluscent red with aqua blue and turquoise accents. In this bowl, I did a reverse slump, flipping the glass during the second firing so the clear is on the top, to highlight the dimensional quality of the colors fused down into the clear glass. It has a slightly bumpy texture on the inside/top with smooth glossy outsides. (The reverse of most of my bowls.) It is most difficult to photograph these features. Please feel free to email me for more photos.
Each of my vessels is a one-of-a-kind, original work of art.
