Gyatoku

Glass Art Warm Art Gallery

Art: Gyatoku by Artist Deborah Sprague
This is a one of a kind ORIGINAL Glass sculpture signed Dsprague.... I've used a sheet of white Bullseye glass and taken a fish print using fine crushed glass mixed in a glass medium and printed the image on the glass. Gyotaku or fish printing is an ancient artform dating back centuries as a way for fisherman to record their catch! I've added a twist to it and captured the image in glass..... I've also added some more crushed aqua colored glass and a some dichroic shimmer glass. The piece is then placed in a kiln and the crushed glass image is melted onto the white sheet glass. Once cooled it is again placed in the kiln on a forming mold to slump it into shape. It is a freestanding sculpture. This piece looks especially nice with light shining through it such as a candle behind it or in a window area.
