wow, thanks y'all! Thinking I should probably then put this discussion in technique, but, since we're here... I have had some comments on texture lately, and these, especially the first view, I did a lot of palette knife again. I'm finding I really like that with the acrylics on these smaller pieces. However, I was working on another painting, a larger piece, I think it's an 18x24, and I had to totally go over it with oils because at that size the acrylics were driving me nuts. It's weird, I like the really bright colors and can get that on the smaller ones and I like how they look, and it's easier to do that with the acrylics because you don't have to worry about muddying so much as you work. I can layer the more pure colors rather quickly. But, when I worked acrylics and palette knife on a larger canvas it just came out looking garish to me and I couldn't get the color mixing the way I wanted it and not the subtlety I was looking for. And I think it was just drying too fast as I was working over a larger space and that wasn't always what I wanted, lol. So, I guess I'll be staying small with the acrylics for now, which is nice for starting landscapes too, less intimidating. Also, with landscapes, I find I have a hard time deciding just what to put in the painting, know what I mean? There often seems to be extra "stuff" that I don't necessarily want to put in it, but, I guess that's also a learning curve, and a question of looking at the big picture and not so much specifics. Just rambling this morning...
