Yeah, it's exactly like that. Only completely different.
I've enjoyed just about as much of this as I can stand.

I am pretty good at this game.  I can recognize styles fairly easily, and know how to use the search engines.  Once I narrowed it down to Cezanne, and started looking, DIA seemed like a logical place to check the collections.

What I do when solving is try to identify the style/movement, then peruse a list of artists from that period/movement.  When I see like candidates, I look at a couple of pieces to see if the brushwork fits etc, and try to narrow it down.  Unless of course, I can take a good guess directly at the artist.  The search engine I sue the most in artcyclopedia.

The painter of this piece is typically known for more "organic" work.

Ok Roberta, from another thread, I'm pretty sure this O'keefe, that's why it bugs me so much. I can't find it.....

LOL.  Well, yes, it is indeed O'Keefe, and not her typical botanicals (which, reminds me, maybe we should have a discussion about erotic or not, buit anyway....)

Hint 1: Urban
Hint 2: O'Keefe is a NATIONAL icon

Woof! That was hard. It is Manhattan (1932), and it is at the Smithsonian.
I knew only that it looked like something from the 30s and that I had seen it somewhere...
Once I knew it was O'Keeffe, it had to be New York City, but even then it wasn't easy to find.

Oh Thank God Muriel. I haven't had the time to look today. I went through a bunch of O'keefe stuff last night and still couldn't find it.

OK, ready? Let me know if it's too small.
Hint: like the O'Keeffe piece, it is not typical of what this artist is known for.
Enjoy!
