I don't know if she ever finished the pieces, but even if she did, she wouldn't be able to substitute them in the show either (since it's closed), would she?

No I definitely do not need a pound of your flesh, LOL!

I am just confused as to how a piece could be entered as a WIP and not just submitted incomplete that way, but allowed to stay in the show, during the whole duration of it, and also WIN AN AWARD for said piece... EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF THAT CONFUSES ME!! I'm sorry, but that just doesn't make any sense to me at all.. AND once again, just the VERY SIMPLE FACT that you stated that it never occurred to you that you'd have to SPECIFICALLY STATE that WIPs aren't eligible should SPEAK VOLUMES to the fact that they shouldn't be eligible!!!

From Pinwheel: Does that mean I won't be able to enter a blank canvas into the next show and just tell you what I'm thinking about doing on it?

This would be very funny, Amanda, if it weren't sounding SOOOO TRUE right now!!!

In defense of Terri, she was my partner and that is one of my rips she posted.  The night before she wrote me a letter saying how sorry she was that it wasn't finished and that she was going to post what she had done for my benefit.  She posted it at the last minute.  I think we've all had moments when we didn't finish.  She's a cool girl, so call off the dogs, she did it for my feelings.  Also, I've tried to remove my own work from a show (so ugly) and it didn't work, so let's not assume she didn't try the same.  However, I think it is such a good point that you could weigh your vote by how they cover the prospectus, I've never even thought of that.

hmm..  I bet she could since all it would take is updating her portfolio pic???  Oh well..  new rules.. water under the bridge..  The bigger shame is the fact her swap partners never got a finished piece..  shannon didn't.. and I'm assuming Lisa didn't either.. that's the worst part. IMO..

removing my work after the show was over, that is.  Don't go looking for it, so, so ugly.

Heather, I never got it, I've only ever gotten one from Olga ever ever.  However, she bought the very first painting I ever sold, so she is still high ranking in my book!

Diane, I honestly don't know when in the month she entered the piece, or why she opted to enter incomplete work rather than wait for the late show in Decemeber. I was in the hospital with my son, and out of the loop. For all I know, she could have entered it literally right before the show closed at midnight. Lord knows, that happens often enough.

Nor do I know why anyone voted for her, but it was the same number of people who voted for you.

As to how it could happen? She decided to do it, uploaded the work, and clicked enter. No mystery to that. She's not getting special treatment. I don't even know who she is!

It happened, you bitched, we're dealing with it; let's move on, k?

I'm truly sorry Lisa, I really NEVER, EVER meant for ANY of my statements to be a PERSONAL attack against the artist - and that's why I have NEVER referred to her by name here *(even though I'm sure some people knew or could VERY easily find out who it was)... I certainly never meant to personally attack ANYONE, least of all, her, especially since I don't even know her!! Seriously.... I'm just trying to understand the policy (or lack thereof) of pulling entries that don't meet the prospectus... and this artist happened to exemplify my case in point - I did also mention another artist that tried to rip-off Jackson Pollock and that one DID get pulled....

Diane.

OMG, you guys, between Diane's fuckin' Sistine Chapel, Amie in the delivery room ("Push, Amie!" "Ah yes, where was I, I was thinking of the Ripped show...") and the available pounds of flesh, I haven't laughed this hard in a long time.
(Wiping eyes, blowing nose...) Lisa, the more you talk about that "ugly" (I haven't seen it but I doubt that) painting, the more people are going to go look for it!
I didn't see any award on those two pencil sketches... I'd say let's give Terri the benefit of the doubt and contact her about those. Chances are she probably doesn't want them there either.

No you can't change the pic once it's in a show & the show is closed, you need help form admin to do that.  I was thinking that she probably fully intended to swap out the old piece for the new & didn't realize it wasn't that simple. Then she probably forgot about changing it, or just didn't get to it.

Hee hee LOL - I know how she "Physically" entered the piece, (I'm not that much of a moron!) what I MEANT was I was confused as to how/why a WIP was allowed to be eligible for any show, and subsequently win an award... THat's ALL!!!

But I've grown quite tired of this discourse as I'm sure all of you have, sooooo....

Okey-dokey... Moving on....

diane, i did try to make the point that technically she DID meet the prospectus, which is why it was still in the show.

is the image entered a rip off of her pre-arranged partner's work? check
does her statement cite the original artist and the work she was ripping off? check
did she include an image of the original? check

nowhere in the show does it say that she can't enter the work purely because she intended to paint it too but never did. as a sketch, it still meets the requirements.

do i think her work, as it stands, adds value to the show? no.

but do i stand by the belief that she met the letter of the prospetus and that her work was therefor eligible for entry? yes.

would you be complaining if she had described her piece as a sketch rather than as an unfinished painting? you tell me.

Diane, it's cool.  I don't know the answer, though.  Melissa emailed me earlier telling my stuff would be pulled from the photo show and I couldn't understand why because it seemed to me I followed more closely than most.  However, I copied her email explainations almost to the letter and now am very compliant and she told me I was fine.  The ripped one just slipped under the radar.  This does bring up a good point, though, about following the prospectus.  My picture of an ancient city was pulled so I replaced it with one with a modern turkish slum.  Whatever.  I can't wait to see how that show turns out, so many good entries!

Please let me say that I do not simply send an email saying that entries will be pulled. I send an email stating that the statement did not meet the prospectus or outlining any other issue and that the entry needs to be edited. I send the follow up email stating that the entry needs to be in compliance for the work to remain eligible for the show only after the matter remains unattened to.
The follow up email is sent because sometimes things happen. Emails never make it, they are overlooked, things we mean to do we forget - all manner of things. I never just send an email that says work is going to be pulled unless it is clearly not eligible for the show.
"The Urban Street..." show was to be about something more than just architectural photography. The prospectus states this and states that the city supports it's society and that the entries should be of the places the artist knows, how the structures play a part in that society and in the life of the artist. As many people entered photos of places they had only visited, it was important that the statement justify the entry, particularly how the last part of the statement applies.
In the case of  Lisa's "Ephesus", as it has been abandoned for hundreds of years, the structure pictured no longer has a society to play a part in. That is why that image was pulled.

I went to the trouble to write this lest someone misunderstand what Lisa meant. This is an area that people get emotional about and I wanted to make sure that no one got the wrong impression. I would hate for someone not to enter a show because they were leary of what type of reception they might get.

Thank you for letting me deviate from the orginal topic... carry on.

Ephesus does play a role in my life as an architect, but maybe not so much as an artist, but that's my mistake.  The email said entries -plural - so I just thought 'wow! there is something I'm not getting here.'

Yes, for the record Melissa was very helpful and wanted to make sure I had something in the show and wasn't suprised by the withdraw after it was too late.

Melissa - I think the deviation from the original topic happened two pages ago!  Thanks for piping up on the subject, though.

Muriel - very very ugly!

Woo, what's going on in the other threads?
