Welcome to the new category of Doll Art!  I create polymer clay dolls and we will soon have a co-host for felt dolls.  We will discuss topics of inspiration, creation, troubleshooting, marketing, shows, shipping, et al.

I'll introduce myself.  My name is Loretta Polaski and I live in Indiana.  I'm an ER nurse and a doll artist.  You can visit my web page www.caterpillarstudio.com for more info about me.

Now...introduce yourself and make some new friends!!

Loretta

I currently have a doll in the French Revolution show.  I like to participate in the EBSQ shows.  It stretches my imagination and it's fun to exhibit my dolls and get feedback.  This doll is concurrently listed on eBay.

Thank you, Lauren and Heide.  I am also going to be involved in the mentor program so if you have any interest in pursuing Doll Art, let me know.  I looked at both of your profiles and you are both talented artists.

I probably couldn't paint a daisy but I love working with clay.  I am excited that EBSQ allowed me to start a forum for doll artists.  There aren't a lot of us on here but we enjoy participating as well.  I hope that as word gets out about this new forum, that more interest will be stirred regarding dolls and new opportunties will emerge.

Here's what I'm working on right now.  This is Noni and she's a snow fairy for a doll group swap.  (ADSG).

Please feel free to post pics here, whether auctions, works in progress, for critiques, or just for sharing.

After Noni, this little elf will be getting a body to go with her head.

Whew!  Thanks for saying something, lol.

I saw a fairy on eBay this summer and she was so sweet.  I wanted to make one.  I have made 10 dolls so far.  Marie Antoinette being #10.  I LOVE IT!!  I'm hooked!  As you see #11 and #12 are under way.  I've been sculpting about 5 months now.

I do not use any other medium but a co-host may be joining us soon and she makes soft sculptures with felt/cloth.  I hate sewing and wouldn't want to do that.

Cute camel, by the way.  Do you have any interest in making dolls?

Loretta

Your dolls are lovely Loretta.  You have such a delicate touch.  Have you ever considered making them articulated so they can move their arms & legs?

Thank you, Beth!  Your portfolio is beautiful!

When I made Marie Antoinette, I made her upper arms poseable, simply by not adding clay to the armature.  I then covered them with cotton batting so I could make her pose after her dress was created.

I have a picture of that to give you an idea.  I may create other dolls like that but it would probably be self-serving, as it was in her design.  What did you have in mind?

I wish the camel was mine,,,he was just someone I met on a trip.

I have too many art/crafting interests that I do not have time to pursue. I enjoy and appreciation the contributions of all artisans to the shows,,boards, fairs and shops. I have never been very good at sculpting,,,or maybe just doesn't feel like my thing so I never put my heart in it.

Well thank you Loretta!  I wondered the dolls only because it adds an additional level of dimension to them if they are somewhat poseable.  My brain is working overtime seeing them in little vignettes...don't mind me

LOL, it's ok, Beth.  Just that little artist in ya!  Believe me, my mind is always on dolls.  Someone in my eBay group did make a vignette based on Alice in Wonderland, a dark version.  It was very cool.
