Thanks Steph, Carolyn!! :)

It's like wearing a stiff ruffle - hasn't caught on anything but it isn't quite how I wanted it. I'm still learning. :) Will have to try another experiment or two.

Gee...you guys are making me want to experiment in another medium now....as if I wasn't stretching myself enough with the paintings, furniture, clothing etc.
..this may have already been asked but....do you add paint to your clay or buy colored...and can you add acrylics to change the color before you bake them?

I love what you've done with it...they are beautiful!!!

Gosh Trish - sorry I missed this when you first posted!

I buy my polyclay in colors and I also use a lot of the "transparent" polyclay. You can add color to white polyclay or the transparent - oil paint is suitable as are powdered pigments. I've seen beads that have been made with polyclay mixed with spices which were very nice!!

Polymer Clay is an amazing medium - there are so many things you can do with this stuff!! I'm hoping to get an order in soon for more materials so I can get back to learning and experimenting! I've missed working with polyclay! :)

Jeanne have you thought of opening a SECOND etsy store (you are allowed if you make it public you have two ids) to sell these pins and things.  They would fly like hotcakes!

I saw a ton of them in Pembroke and like she says photos don't do them justice.

::this is my first visit to the thread..........I avoided it because I knew what would happen. I will be buyin polyclay veddy soon::

The problem with that idea is the monumental task of photographing and keeping track of which pin is which - they are all different. :( If it is acceptable to do "the pin will be sorta like this but not" - then I could. ;)

Did pick up a neato trick this week which I am going to do but haven't had a chance yet -

For signing your pieces - make a impression of your name from a credit card - trim away what you don't want - bake that and then impress clay into that mold to make yourself a "chop" to stamp the back of small items - WAY KEWL!!!

i don't see why you couldn't list a single pin but show a photo of several, with the stipulation that you will pick out a nice one for the buyer....shrug

See you make it sound like all of that would be easy! I'll have trouble just getting the camera set up much less a setting which would reliably afford good photos every time. With my luck I would take the photos, run down to my machine and find out that they are all  a w f u l . I am contemplating doing it though if I can figure out how to do it right.

Will have to go looking for that article on setting up a cheap but good light box etc.

I finally ordered some polyclay today. I've had a wish list over on DickBlick for ages and I deleted everything and went to the Clay Shop (or whatever it is called instead). I've decided that I'm going to switch to Kato Polyclay so that's what I've ordered (DickBlick doesn't carry Kato Polyclay).

Next I need to clean up my craft room and get it better organized so I can do polyclay and switch out to Christmas ornaments when it is that time of year or other craft projects I might do. Hope I can figure out a better to organize it. Not a large room but has TONS of stuff in there! :)

ok...sorry, but I would love to see a pic of your craft room...I can just image how cool it is...

um..have I metioned that I am using our spare bedroom to do polyclay, cast molds, do resin, etc....so I would love to see a real space dedicated to clay....

It isn't dedicated to clay - I do craft painting there so I have drawers full of acrylic paints and baskets of pencils, I do Christmas ornaments there, boxes of decorative tissue papers, paper mache rabbits, I have needlepoint canvases, boxes of yarn for needlepoint or knitting and decoupage stuff, beads and a bead loom, lots of rubber stamps and stamp pads, collections of great cards, and a ton of books on both craft and serious art. Have this great old dentist cabinet with wonderful drawers that have my technical pens and lord knows what in there now. On top of that I have antique coke bottle trays that hold all my tulip fabric paints.  Tons of stuffes in there - wonderful stuffes!! :)

The craft room used to be the bedroom for the apartment which was over the free standing garage which was later converted into the office. The apartment used to be my studio until we raised the roof over what was the "attic". Now it is the guest room and the back room is my craft room.

If I manage to get it organized - then I will consider taking a photo.

Trying out different backgrounds in my brand new made it myself light box.

I think the gold background works best. May end up trying others just to see. :)

Jeanne, are you going to try selling?  Great!  I think the black/gray background one looks the best, but the colors in the gold one seem to show up better.............However, the black back doesn't compete with the pin.  Not sure that made any sense......

That black background ends up looking grey and it's very black and the pin ends up looking too light. The blue and gold capture the color of the pin more accurately.

I'm going to mess around with it some more - try different backgrounds and see - I want to be able to take reliable photos every time so then I could list them on Etsy.

Then I have to figure out how to price them! oh my! :)
