There are several face a day challenges out there, with all sorts of guide lines I want to start one the doesn't become a beast of burden, and challenges only our skills not our very lives. Here are the rules...

  • It doesn't have to be every day
  • All faces welcome human and otherwise
  • open to all media
  • rough or finished
  • emphasis should be on the expression of a mood or emotion.
  • Share them here
  • not up for critique here, were are just sharing

Love them Alma! What a great idea to turn this into a mini challenge. I wish I had more time at the moment--I'd definitely participate. Maybe once I finish this commission.

Mollucks are under the classification of Red Neck Haircuts at least for now. Short in the front, long in the back. Populalr in the late 80's early 90's. I saw one sitting in a truck stop the other day he unwittingly became my model!lol

I'd never heard of "mullock" before either, at first I thought maybe you meant "mullet" (business in front, party in the back) so I looked it up, it's described as the "unholy union of a mullet and dreadlocks", i.e., a mullet with dreadlocks, which I don't believe I've seen in real life - interesting!

I did mean mullet Like Mel Gibson wore in some of his earlier movies. When I wrote the cartoon I didn't know how to spell it, went to Google and there popped up Mullock hairstyle I assumed that was the spelling. Now that I looked into it you are right Vicky, perhaps I am saved by the fact that Mullock is not cool either!lol

The idea was to portray annoyance but it is a pretty subtle change in features. The book did warn if you over did it it would look angry instead. I am annoyed that he looks angry lol but I still think it turned out cute. I am calling this one "Really? This is the shirt you packed? Do I look like Charlie Brown?"

These are great Alma! What size is your sketchbook? Are you using any reference or are they strictly from your imagination?

I bought a sketchbook from B&N it is 9x12, and though the binding obviously intimindates me (drawing are off to the side) I absolutely love the paper It is Canson 90 lb weight and it's tooth is really good for me.

I am combining 2 books: First Ken Hultgren, The Artof Animal Drawing, construction, action Analysis, caricature and then my Fav "Making Faces" drawing expression for comic and cartoons by 8fish. This one is very helpful as they have several cartoonist give there interpetation of the emotion, that way I usually can identify with one or the others interpetation.

P.S. Dick Blick just came to the door, and I know he brought illustration markers for dessert!

Are they the Copic markers? Markers are one medium I could never get into, although I bet they save a lot of time once you know what you're doing. Are they lightfast?
