HELP! I can't save my description

HELP! I can't save my description - 4/6/2011 3:44:48 PM

I hate to be annoying, but I can't move forward until I find out why my description isn't being saved. As far as I can tell everything else is being saved but my description isn't. There is no save button or continue button in that box or below it anywhere. I think all my other info is being saved but not the description.

Please help so I can move on.

There isn't a "Save" button for the text box for your artist statement. Clicking anywhere outside of the text area after entering your statement is how you close the text editor and automatically saves your work.

Are you pasting text or code?

Thanks for the reply. I tried both ways but the 3rd or 4th times, I was copy and pasting the code in the HTML editor.
I have been closing the box every time with the x on the top right because that was the only choice I had. I'll try the way that you said and get back with the result.

I tried everything i could and still can't get it to work. I never had a problem with the old version of Ebsq.

I tried FF and I still can't get it to work. After searching the forums, I can see this has been a problem for a long time now and still hasn't been solved. Mayve there should be a "Save" button.

I see your descriptions Robert, one has some odd characters in there and they could use some formatting changes but they're showing up now.

After 4 hours I figured out how to get the paypal button to show up but when you click on the button that says to import from MS Word, it comes out all jumbled up. When I use Etsy or FASO, it comes out just right. I guess the same process with EBSQ will not work the same way. In my description, I use bulleting that I set up on Word in order to list things in my description. So I guess I will have to input it all by hand every time when I use EBSQ. Bummer.

Also, I change the title of my paypal button and entered the new code and it's not accepting the changes. I do this same process on other website and everything works perfectly but on this site I can't get anything to work as far as the description goes.
I've tried many different things for hours today and I can't get it to work. I was finally able to get a paypal button there but when I delete the code because of changes I made to the button, it won't accept the changes.
I have never seen a dialog box in any website that didn't have a save button. That, I know, IS the problem but for some reason, Ebsq wont put a save button in the box so the changes can be saved. I know that this is the reason for the problem.

I'm glad you linked to that example since the "odd characters" I was referring to were your bullet points.

I think all you need to do for ebsq is change the formatting, I think we can use basic html here (we used to be able to). On ETSY you can't use any html which is why it accepted your cut & paste from Word.

After you pasted it in the description box, how did it look? Did you preview it? I'll go into one of mine now to see what the options are (I haven't done much yet with the descriptions).

Sorry I had to disappear for a while. I had a family emergency and was out of the office.

So--if you were click on the x in the corner, you were exiting without saving. I suspect my description of how to edit wasn't quite what you needed. I'm not asking you to click outside of the little pop-up window, but rather anywhere ON the pop-up window outside of the text box. It save the same way your title, media, date, etc all save. You click to another line, and the line you were just editing automatically saves. I'll see if I can get some screen shots tomorrow to better assist you.

Sorry for your frustration today.

Amie,

I went in to my art case to get a better understanding of it too so that I could know what I was talking about when I gave Bob some advice. I was able to get my changes to save although at first they didn't show up in Chrome, I had to exit, look in Safari & then come back into Chrome before they took effect.

I think a little "save" button, even if it's not necessary would be very very helpful since most people look for it.

Also I tried editing the HTML to get the text to center (I went into the HTML editor section). It looked ok in preview but then completely disappeared. Is there some reason why centering isn't an option on the formatting toolbar, or is it there but I'm just not seeing it?

Also as nice as the little facebook "like" buttons are, they're throwing off the alignment of my titles in my portfolio, can that button be moved elsewhere?

Part of the reason why changes aren't showing up right away is because of "page caching"

Thank you both for looking into this! Gillie, I hope your emergency last night turned out ok.

Can you tell me how you fixed my description? I guess for some reason, the MS Word process doesn't work without tweaking it somehow.
Also, I would like to know how to somehow enter the regular description and the paypal button all in the one format (html) box. I tried to work with Word to generate the description in html format but couldn't seem to get a handle on how to do it (if it's even necessary).

I'm not real savy when it comes to html, although I know some of it, I have Adobe Golive when I make something that requires html code. But when I tried to use it to generate code for the description, somehow that failed too.

I hope we can discuss this today.

I'd like to know too, I didn't know we could add things like bullet points. I would like to know how to center text too, we used to be able to do that with the old system.

Hi Vicky (now that I know your real name), ; ) I just started using bullet points as a test when I joined FASO (Fiine Art Studio Online), when I saw an option for pasting from MS Word. I was actually surprised to see that it worked and also that it worked on Etsy.
I like bullet points because it makes it much easier to read the description.

Let me ask you how you did your "bullets" since that seemed to be the largest part of the problem. It appeared you were using special characters that don't render properly with our text editor.

And I believe the reason why stuff wasn't saving for you was twofold. It sounds like you were clicking the x at times without getting out of edit mode. The other thing it sounds like is that you exited edit mode while still in html mode. For some weird reason you have to switch back to "regular" view prior to exiting edit mode for your code/text to save.

The reason we introduced the text editor that we did is so you don't have to use something like Word or Golive. This program, in normal mode, writes the code for you, so all you need do is enter plain text and can then use the little icon buttons to edit your text, all without html knowledge.

Now, when you DO want to add a big hunk of code (ie PayPal buttons) just change over to html, and once it's inserted, change back to regular view to continue editing in regular mode as necessary. Then, when you're ALL done, just click your title, date, or media, or some other field, and you'll be out of edit mode for the statement.

As for the emergency, we'll see how that turns out. Dealing with a very sick 4-year-old and a lot of hours spent at the hospital last night. He's home now, but still not feeling much better and I'm worried he may have to be admitted rather than do the outpatient stuff we did last night. Thanks for your concern.

My best wishes for the child. I know that's a tough thing to deal with.

The way that I entered the bullet points is just through MS Word. I made them in Word by just selecting "Format" then "Bullets and Numbering" and I went from there. Then I saved the document as a .doc and that was about it. Other sites also have the option to paste it like that with the "Paste from Word" option like you have but it doesn't seem to work here, unless there's something I'm doing wrong.

I added the bullet points by writing it in html. When you're doing bullets, it's something called an "unordered list" You begin your list with the code

quote:

<ul>

and then you put

quote:

<li>

in front of each item on the list. when your list is done, you put this at the end

quote:

</ul>

which ends your list.

Vicky, I think you can still center with HTML, which is how it was done previously as well (aka before we added the wysiwyg editor)
