I would like to make a pair of slippers for Zoe, something simple to have her wear around the house over the winter.

What materials would you suggest? Any tips on how to cut and do this? Can I just make my own pattern or would you suggest to get one?

I've never done shoes, so this is something new.

I frequently see darling little shoes and slippers on etsy, but I don't have any pattern or suggestions other than look there to see what is being done.

LOL... I bet Zoe would love that. She loves popping bubble wrap.

I saw some on there... they're cute, but they are all felt and for like babies. Sadly, Zoe is no baby anymore and will tear these babies up! So I wanted a better fabric for sure, something more durable to her craziness in running and jumping off if things... she chases Porche most of the day and wears holes in her socks.

Maybe I can find a picture of her in it. She actually made an entire outfit out of it (I probably told this story here years ago).. But she said, Mom, can we go to Starbucks and I can wear it. (because she was so proud of this outfit).. and I said SURE. So, I made sure Smitty was dressed nice, and I was dressed nice because I didn't want anyone calling child services on me because I was clothing my child in bubble wrap. So, we get there... and everyone was staring, pointing... and Kylian whispered in my ear... "Mom, do you think that they are wondering who the designer is?" And I said, I'm sure of it baby. She was so proud.

There's a company called Robeez that makes the greatest leather slippers for kids. My friend decided to make her own version, just out of thin leather scrap material and they turned out wonderful. The link is : http://robeez.ca/EN-US/default.htm?Lang=EN-US&PriceCat=2&RefID=

I thought that the booties were the best for winter time, this was all they wore before getting into shoes.

BTW: This isn't my foot!!

If you know how to knit (just the basic knit and purl stitches) above is a simple knitting pattern for those "Grammie Slippers" we used to get every Christmas. (at least I did) They are super easy to make.

This is what they look like...pretty darn ugly, but comfy!

So here's after knitting it, but before stitching it together.

You would probably have to adjust the pattern for Zoe's feet but these are cute:

Looks to me like it would be easy to adjust that pattern for size and more durable fibers. :)

There are lots of patterns out there - just use the keywords "patterns kids slippers" or something similar.

Felt is pretty good for the sole and if you want to make them not slippery and last even longer you can get some silicon and put that on the bottom. (I've seen people use a trowel to give the silicon an even "tread"). You could also use suede for the sole - if your sewing machine can't handle suede you could still hand sew it - just get yourself a "glover's needle" (it's a triangular needle which pierces suede or leather)

Or something like this should be easy enough, no? Except I would put something non-skid on the sole, especially if you have stairs in your house.
