I am spending a week in the Phoenix area. Other than having bronchitis, it's going well. Today we visited the Heard Museum, which is absolutely amazing and holds more wonders than I have time to mention. It has the best collection of Native American art anywhere. There's a temporary exhibit there (up until January) that I wanted to see. www.heard.org/currentexhibits/mothers/index.html All the artists featured are part of the same extended New Mexico family, which is amazing enough. It's a beautiful show, but I was absolutely blown away by one mother-daughter pair, Roxanne Swentzell and Rose Simpson. The photo is a detail of a collaborative piece by Rose Simpson and her mom, in which each artist created her own self portrait. If you go to the link above, make sure you click on the link from SantaFean magazine, and also click on "Artists" in the top menu. I have never been this moved by a piece of ceramics, much less everything those two women have in the show. Thumbnail Image
