Alma, I have Version 10.  Not sure I understand what you're doing.........or how it would help when I close it.  The problem is the tracing paper.  You can put tracing paper over a photograph and do your "painting" on that.  However, when I close it the tracing paper disappears and when I open it I can't just continue doing what I was doing.  I guess I could add more tracing paper to it and go from there, but it seems I tried that and it didn't work very well.  Hmmmm, will try that again, though.

I am glad they don't trot a new painter out every 4 months like they do Photoshop.  It is hard to keep up!.....however, Painter is now up to Painter 11.  I don't know how different 11 is from 10, but when I bought it I could not afford 11...so bought 10 on ebay.

Will experiment some more today.  Hopefully.

Carolyn

whoa I am still back in painter 8! What I was trying to get at is open photo jpeg in photoshop, make a second empty layer. Do a save as as a PSD. Close doc. Open the same document in painter, pull down menu to view layers. work on your document with out making clone then when finished do a save as rename it and you still have your orginal copy and now new copy. That tracing paper clone thing used to be real important when they first came out with painter. All documents were flat but since they have included layers and are more c ompatible with photoshop. Now I just save an image several times, until I get it the way that I want it. Of course I also do most of my fininshing with photoshop. Hope fully this helps!

I too had Painter 8, but never got anywhere with it.  I think in 10 they have added some truly helpful things......like quick clone so all you have to do to get the tissue paper is hit quick clone instead of the steps as before.  It is a nice program.  I think your way of doing it would work just fine, but I want to use the tissue paper.  I can draw and see the image I am working on and then turn it off and have just the image I have "Painted"......I need to do more experimenting.  I am only at the beginning of the book I am in so maybe this will be addressed soon (Or I have passed over it in my excitment to get started......hmmm, maybe I should go back and check!)

Thanks for the help!

C
