This is a swap of pictures of us? Or can it be pictures of loved ones (I'd like to do more than one pairing, and I'm not sure I need 3 portraits of me)? Also, when is the sign up going to be (people take me forever to create).

Yes, the artists participating in the swap exchange pictures of themselves. The main reason most participate is the fun of painting others. If you end up with too many portraits of yourself for your own comfort, perhaps as a gifts for a family members.

The sign up thread should be going up shortly. Keep your eyes peeled.
