Thank you Kevin!  I almost nabbed that Sony but I would have been wandering around for some more years with camera envy, I just know I would.  Better I get it over with.

Now if I can just learn this new equipment.  Holy moley...

CONGRATS, Steph! Sounds like you bought yourself a very cool toy. It's great that you have a camera store to lean on while you get used to it. Can't wait to see what you post.

I am not sure where is a picture of it Carolyn but this is a link to a pic of it and specs and stuff...

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_d3000.asp

Annie...I may be wrong...but after having the 4500 or even it's grandaddy the 900 coolpix, it seemed that any of the point and shoots was a step backwards.    But then I was looking for such a broad spectrum of requirements.  Some actually had most of them but then these little tiny aperture  ranges that I just couldn't want them.

The reviews say they are easy to learn to use.  Well let's see about that!  I haven't had time to sit with this one yet, and it's been a deluge outside so I have to wait till it stops raining to go play.

Learning this new camera is not going to happen over night but I love it enough to want to know it inside and out.  It's an amazing thing.   I feel like I've never taken a picture before!  It seems as though the manual is written in plain enough English to be able to follow it without nearly as much difficulty as I had in understanding the manual for the 4500.

I did read that it was a pretty easy to learn use for first timer dslr owners and that was the reason I chose this camera.  I was really waffling between this one and the Cannon Rebel.  But I love Nikon macro lens and I love to shoot macro and the price of the Nikon dropped 50.00 so here I am, happy as a clam.     The store owner, who happens to be a Nikon fan so his opinion may be slightly prejudiced...said the Nikon was more user friendly when I asked him that question.

I love that I have the support of my local camera store because it's like learning a new language.  It's seems like a camera inside a computer instead of a computer inside of a camera if that makes any sense!

I was working at the bead store today so I didn't get to play with it yet.  You can bet I will be out there tomorrow!  Then I have to figure out how to get the pics to the computer.
