Just realized I totally forgot to reply that our 10th year is actually a perfect time to revist some classic flowers in the fotm schedule. Expect to see at least a few since we want to pepper in a few new ideas as well as the classics.

Ohh... well, that opens up the door to redo shows as well... "the best shows from the past 10 years of EBSQ, etc". I wouldn't mind seeing a few shows repeated.

But that wasn't what I logged on for...

Can we do a "Dr Seuss" show without getting sued? Interpretations of Seussian characters?

J

I don't know what the people over Dr.Suess stuff is like but i got i trouble with Disney, well i only got a letter saying it had come to their attention i was reproducing images for profit and to please stop or they would have to take legal action,i stopped.i was selling wooden plaqes with the disney characters at a little shop here locally and it got back to them.i think they must have people going around looking, but that was 20 yrs.ago, they may be easier now.
I like the idea of suess type characters, but did you do something like that?i seen some somewhere.

We did indeed do a "Reinterpreting Dr Seuss" exhibit two years ago:

Oh man, I was out shopping and two ideas hit me for show stuff.

1) Pet art. People lay out paper, canvasses, etc and their cats, dogs, cockatiels, etc paint and they submit those in the show. That would be a riot! :)

2) And then I was thinking it would be nice if not every month every couple of months to have a shot at curating a show. Maybe people could submit themes and if their theme gets accepted, on whatever month, they get to display a collection of art from at least 4 fellow EBSQers on the front page or something.

I dunno... my idea isn't fleshed out, but I think there is something there. I'm seeing the ability to curate as a specific art related skill and it would be interesting to see how people develop it.

While in San Fran this weekend I thought of a couple of things I would like to see in addition to what I have listed

I would really like a painted furniture show - in that images or designs are painted on it - not just some standard paint treatment

I would also like a show that is "series of 3" it would have to be 3 pieces that have a strong correlation with one another well enough that they could be displayed in a small area together. It is something that professional artists have to do anyway for solo shows or gallery submissions. I would just love to see our artists in that light.

Ofcourse, I want "expressions" of the facial kind and socially themed art ,cause that's what I like to do.  I've got a great banana wearing a condom.

Definitely keep FOTM shows, those are always enjoyable. The 1W shows are intriguing & since they are relatively new, it would be nice to see them run for at least another year. I like seeing how people interpret the words, even as others have said, people get a bit off track sometimes.
I like many of the suggested themes, lots of good ideas in this thread.
   My perennial suggestion remains=Squirrels!

here's my 2 centavos:
the elements: water, fire, earth, sky
the 4 seasons
zodiac of the month
shoes
feet
*sounds like i have a foot fetish!*LOL*
intangibles...that just popped in my head - such as emotions
your interpretation of faith
cheesecake (even the one we can eat) or pin-up (seems to be really popular these days)
laughter
kisses or kissing
dancing
playground
attitude
one thing that would define a major change in your life...
death/life
dreams
....i hope these actually constitute ideas for this...LOL

How about a show called messages. Something that has words, poetry... or a look.... some kind of message... more direct that the obvious, "all art has a message..." haha.... or Diary... something secret... a treasure hunt of some sort. Or we could have a show... "it's all about Kelli"... snirk..... ahh.. which springs another thought... a victim show... since I've been feeling that card lately... so... enough of the happy stuff from me....!
