this is another from the Treaty Oak book I am illustrating....
the writer wanted the willow to be shocked about the tree poisoning....I tried to capture that surprised shocked look...lol
please let me know what you thinks  ;-)

Hi Nata,

I think you captured the shocked expression well, my only problem with this piece is that your values are too close, it's hard to tell the leaves of the willow from the backround trees or grass - they're getting lost.

Nata,  I like the Weeping Willow, only a tiny suggestion  weeping willows often have branches that touch the ground....making them almost look as if you could take shelter in them.  Try to see if you can do a paper mock up of some longer branches ....if it dosent work nothing lost.

The colors in the piece are wonderful.

Theodora

Bella Ella children's book illustration (unfinished)
not sure what I should add....any suggestions?   I added the umbrella because my 3 1/2 year old daughter said the elephant will melt playing in the sun....lol

I tried to upload a larger file so that you could see it closer but the uploading feature wouldn't let me.

Hi Nata,Just seen these,i love the purple and pink ones, and the umbrella is cute as can be.i don't really understand what you where going for with this last one,it may be the background, but it kinda looks like he's falling backwards,is that what you where going for?but the purple and pink ones,i think little kids would love them.

hi Christi ;-)
the first ones were done with derwent colored pencils...it's supposed to be the beginning of the book when the mama comes out stops the playing because they have to go shopping...this is the first time the elephant goes to the store strapped in a car seat in the car......I am doing sample pieces for a book I wrote about  an elephant baby is afraid the car seat.
The last painting of the elephant which looks like he is jumping in air is supposed to be the elephant frightened in the car ....I realize now that I need to either eliminate the dark background and work on the trunk....he is supposed to look frightened....I apprecaite you honest opinion...someone told me also he looks too stiff and I need to make him look more alive.....what do you think?

Well he does look frightened,i see what your going for now,if there was a story there it would make sense, but if this is about one baby elephant,i would stay with same basic colors,so a child would see it as same baby.and i think that is a very good idea for a story and try to see it as a child would, good luck.
