The front page is so brief, I tho't to post this new one here so y'all wouldn't miss it. It took quite a while to get all the detail in this one! Media: oil on gessoed masonite Dimensions: 27" x 31" Date of Work: 2009 A very interesting subject to paint, these Native American members of the Muskogee tribe were reenacting their traditions at the Ocmulgee Mounds outside Macon, Georgia. The hunter was demonstrating the use of a throwing stick that propels a long, narrow spear at larger game, such as deer or wild pigs. She was wearing a beautiful deer skin dress, embellished with beads and definitely not an everyday garment. The strong light and shadows intensify the character of the hunter's face, which draws the viewer in as the focal point of the painting. The relaxed, calm body language of horse and maiden provide a foil for the vigor the hunter portrays. Thumbnail Image
