this show was created by Sarah Jessica Parker. It is something about 12 artists being challenged in ways that are outside their normal genres each week resulting in it being whittle down to one person who wins money and a big show or something like that. I am thinking it is good for someone who is multi talented and able to create on the fly.

I will see if I can find a link to a page that does a better job of describing it

Bravo picks up Sarah Jessica Parker's 'American Artist' reality series

By Reality TV World staff, 04/14/2009

Bravo has announced that it has picked up American Artist, Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker's new Project Runway-like reality competition series for aspiring artists.

The network first announced it was developing American Artist -- which Parker's Pretty Matches production company had already previously begun developing with Project Runway's former Magical Elves production company and former Miramax Television executive Eli Holzman over a year ago -- last July.

Each episode of American Artist will feature the show's contestants competing in art-themed challenges from a range of disciplines -- including sculpture, painting, photography and industrial design -- and completing works of art that will be appraised by a panel of top figures in the art world, including fellow artists, gallerists, collectors, curators and critics.

American Artist's winner will receive a gallery show, a cash prize and a sponsored national tour.

According to Magical Elves co-founder Dan Cutforth, he and fellow co-founder Jane Lipsitz originally began developing American Artist's concept with Holzman. Holzman, who previously helped develop Project Runway for Bravo as well, later combined their format with a similar concept being developed by Parker and her partner Alison Benson.

American Artist is produced by Magical Elves and Pretty Matches, with Cutforth, Lipsitz, Parker, Benson and Holzman all serving as executive producers.

Cool! I hope they checked with the magazine of the same name and don't get sued...
Sounds like fun, I'll look at the link. Thanks, Heide.

Yeah, it's exactly like that. Only completely different.
I've enjoyed just about as much of this as I can stand.

here is the most official link I can find

http://www.bravotv.com/casting

It seems that they put out a paragraph of information about the show for press and that is all anyone knows. It all says about the same thing as displayed in a previous post. I think you have to actually email them to get more info but most likely with as tight-lipped as they seem to be about this they will be the one asking you the questions - to determine if you would qualify.

yeah, on your link for casting it said they will want you to send in a video tape but that link did not have AA listed on it so I would email them as they have asked.

The NYC casting for this show is on the 17th or 18th .... I wish I had some experience or education to list on a resume, but I am self-taught with no real exhibiting to list, so what would I put on a resume? Talk about feeling out of your league. Here's the link for those of you with art careers. The list of qualifications is quite small:

I wouldn't worry, David. Just put whatever you've done. If I entered, I would list my jobs in advertising and elsewhere. They may well be looking for a wide range of people and experiences.

This sounds really exicting... Part of me wants to apply. The casting call in LA is this Saturday... But I think I'll watch it this season and decide whether I want to enter next year...

It's not about where you went to school or what galleries have shown your work, they'll be looking for an interesting mix of artistic and personality types. If you're interested, email them and respond to their questions. There will surely be thousands trying out, but everyone has a chance, especially if you are an interesting personality or have led an interesting life...

I wish the entire art world had these attitudes. I just might go & I will  exploit myself by being an advocate for Narcolepsy if I do. This just might be the something different about me that they are looking for. They want stories of personal trials, I got 'em!
