Oooh its nice to see this category at EBSQ!
I love fantasy art - though i make steampunk jewelry, not really fantasy. I have though been a reader of both Fantasy and Sciece Fiction. Anyone else into the genres?

If there is one thing that has influenced my work it it the Science Fiction of writers like: Richard Morgan and William Gibson. I feel I owe both writers so very much.

Is there anyone else who is influenced by writing? I have always found that when I read my imagination takes flight. Its how I got into Steampunk. Its how I've always been interested in creating cyberworlds and jewelry.

Hope to meet others! Who / what has been your influences?

that is so interesting that you were inspired by literature. I have never heard that before. I guess that makes sense.

I like sci-fi too - not so much fantasy though other than Lord of the Rings (is that considered fantasy?) I absolutely LOVE sci-fi art from the paperbacks etc. from the 50's - early 60's, have really been getting into that lately . Our used book shop has a whole shelf of those books (the ones w/2 books in one & the second book is inverted), I would love to collect them at some day. For reading I generally prefer the older books & stories but like sci-fi movies from any time (just saw Star Trek yesterday in fact!) .

I love your jewelry!! I love sci-fi/fantasy, both the books and the artists. In fact, I'm a third of 4 generations of genre fans. I include mythology and religions in this category. Not because I'm a skeptic, it's just both the authors and artists borrow heavily from all the symbolism that's gone before. Oh & throw in Shakespeare. Some of my favorite authors....Frank Herbert, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Tolkein, Isaac Asimov, Michael Moorcock and of course, Robert Heinlein. Still trying to figure out how to illustrate "Grok". Early influences for illustration.....Frank Frazetta, Boris Vallejo and the Hildebrandt brothers. All the Pre-Raphaelites and Neo-Classics have to be included too. I could babble on. You've hit upon one of my passions. It irritates me, that many poo poo them as "mere" illustrators.

Anyway....welcome, you have a friend here.

I love sci-fi too, both the books and the art, and the movies. I just got an expensive (for me) book of sci-fi art by the Emshwillers, a husband and wife team who illustrated a lot of the old 50's and 60's sci-fi pulp book covers. It was a Christmas present from my hub, so that's how I justified spending so much on one book :) I also have a few older paperbacks squirreled away, more for the cover art than the book sometimes. I'll try to post a pic here soon of the Emshwiller book.

OK, here's a pic of my Emshwiller book. They did a lot of the pulpy sci-fi and fantasy covers and used themselves for models a lot. I kind of regret selling my old sci-fi books to a book dealer. I had a lot from the 60's and 70's with really cool covers. I kept 2 or 3, but I miss the rest, although he paid me a good price.

I haven't read all of the Emshwiller book yet, but their lives sound interesting - like most artist's lives are :)

Oh I want that book! Actually I'd love to see a book of just the pulp covers from the 50's - early 60's. I'd also love a book of just covers from the Silver Age of comics too.

Yeah, I wonder why they haven't done a book like that because I think there'd be a market for it, I love the comic book covers too. I had this book sitting in my Amazon cart for a long time before I pulled the trigger. I think it might have been $40 or $50 or something like that which I usually can't bring myself to spend on a book. But you know how it goes with gotta-have-it stuff. Gotta have it.
