I seem to be in a bit of a funk.  No ambition, no new art.

Yeah, it's exactly like that. Only completely different.
I've enjoyed just about as much of this as I can stand.

Thanks for all these great entries.  They're all very beautiful and I am having a really hard time picking just one - I've got a couple in mind, but I'm going to wait until later tonight to make the final decision, so, if there are any last minute entries, sneak them in now.

AND THE WINNER IS:

Muriel!

I had a really tough time deciding on just one of these images. I thought I had it narrowed down and then Muriel snuck this in.

I had a little secret when I came up with "dream time" - most of you probably know of my New Zealand connection, but there's also an Australian connection.  I spent a good month surrounded by the brick red earth and the turquoise sky that is the outback, in a remote place off the beaten path in New South Wales, Australia, and it was then that I became very in tune with myself and began to follow my path as an artist.

I fell in love with my surroundings there, and the indigenous people, their art, and the history they created.  I somehow identify with their Dreamtime, and find myself feeling the importance of our dreams and how they pertain to our reality.  The Aboriginal definition of Dreamtime is: The time of the creation of the world in Australian Aboriginal mythology: “Aboriginal myths tell of the legendary totemic beings who wandered across the country in the Dreamtime . . . singing the world into existence."  It has also been translated as "of the past".

My own fascination with dreams is why I chose the topic and it was so fun to see what "dream time" meant to other artists.  When I saw Muriel's photo of her beautiful little daughter, 32 years ago, sleeping and dreaming amidst the subdued red and light blue hues surrounding her, I knew this was what I was looking for.  The blurred background and foreground resemble a pastel drawing, very similar to some of the art I saw in Australia, and they envelope the sleeping girl in a cocoon of color.  The peacefulness that this photograph evokes makes me think of the Aboriginal people, and their peacefulness as a society - or at least their attempts to be such.

I am including an example of Aboriginal cave art, and two paintings done by Aboriginal artists Trephina Sultan and Betty Mbitjana, so you can see what I mean regarding my comparison.

Wow, thank you! Talk about surprise...
I thought the etching was all I had that fitted the theme, then this morning I talked to Sophie on the phone and saw your call for last minutes entries right after... and thought of this old photo, which has long been one of my favorites.
It's a 35mm Kodachrome slide, taken with a telephoto lens (hence the blurring–this is not photoshopped) in Las Vegas (hence the desert sunlight). No flash.

The few lines you wrote about Australia are very moving, and the art is great. I especially love the third piece, by Betty Mbitjana.

All the entries were wonderful, and I am honored to have been chosen.
I'll post a new theme tomorrow.

Shawn, I wonder if the feelings invoked by those aboriginal paintings are universal.   Even though I have never seen them in person, they always move me when I see representations of them.

Good dreamy choice!  Congratulations Muriel.  Your daughters and granddaughters are so beautiful.

Beautiful Choice! I fell in love with that as soon as I saw it.
Funny I kept having " The Dreaming " by Kate Bush going through my mid whenever I opened this thread.
