I'm a little confused - am I supposed to sign up somewhere else?  I'm finding all these little scattered threads about Simon Sez and it made me more confused than I already am so I'm just gonna post this and if I'm doing it wrong, will someone please tell me?  Here's a picture I drew in my grandma's garden right before she had a stroke and went into a nursing home - its a good thing I drew them then, I haven't been back to the old house since.

You said stones so I think I'll throw in this photo that I took of a very old gravestone from Lanercost Priory in the Cumbria District in England.

And one more - this unusual rock wall is at the outer edges of the outback at Mutawintji National Park in New South Wales.  It is just one of many Aboriginal handprint walls and I liked this one because of the little natural window.  It was an awesome place.

I have to say, this was a fun theme for me.  I have always loved rocks.  When I was younger, my mom and I frequented a lapidary museum not far from my home, and the two of us had quite a rock collection.  I love rocks both in their natural state, and, those polished and exquisitely cut gemstones in all their brilliance.  Stone walls and old gravestones.  Natural rock formations and river rocks polished smooth by the flowing water.  Sigh.  It isn't any wonder I use them as a canvas for some of my work.

Simon had a tough choice, but, in the end, it was this photograph submitted by Amanda Makepeace that did it for me.  Great composition, I can feel the glistening smoothness of these stones.  The subtle earthy colors.  Just beautiful.

Well done Amanda.  And well done all entrants this week!  Thank you for sharing all of these wonderful works!

Thank you Tracey!!!

It was a magical day when I took that photograph in the summer of 2007. My daughter and I traveled to Charmouth Beach on the Jurassic Coast of England to go Fossil Hunting. We did bring back a bag of fossil we uncovered but I was obviously drawn to the stones on the beach. I couldn't resist taking photographs.

Congrats Amanda!  Those are some pretty nice stones - I really would love to get my hands on that red one.
