Big on Speed Racer as a kid. Love Neil Gaiman's Sandman as an adult (particularly Death). And I've always been a big fan of Disney's animation. Particularly the stuff that was painstakingly done by hand. Look at the most minute details in Cinderella for example. Gorgeous! Glad to see that eye for detail despite having gone missing for a few years is back ala Pixar. Wall-E is easily akin to Disney's greatest early films cinematically. The details make the film.

I used to be a big fan of Adult Swim and I think I have seen every episode of Dragonball Z. Farther back, Dudley Doright and I did watch Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, inayashu, Gundam Force, etc

Yeah, it's exactly like that. Only completely different.
I've enjoyed just about as much of this as I can stand.

I agree, Amie! Bambi and Fantasia are breathtaking as well. It's hard to believe they are almost 70 years old...

That was an excellent point about Peter Parker.

There alot of times seems to be a trade off with the powers.
Peter was a brilliant example, and he paid the price more than some.

most of the time it's a love lost/death - or an unreqanted love - or the love that will never be - or the love that tried and failed because of the "hero" situation.

Then you have the characters who are out for revenge, hunting for something or someone. Or the pure evil ones, who will do anything in their power to watch the world burn.

I think the Heath Ledger portral of The Joker is a more pure evil portral than the previous (though I didn't care for his voice choice) Some villians just keep at it and for no other reason but chaos.

Favorite Villians?

And why?

I have a lot of favorite villians but in more recent times, I really enjoyed Black Adam as he appears in DC's 52. He was a surprisingly sympathetic (and harsh) villian. You watch him gradually tame under the influence of his gentle wife...then she is killed--and all bets are off. I never thought I would enjoy something that was basically a spin-off character from Captain Marvel, one of the more bizarre, vanilla, old-school comics.

Oh I didn't realize this was printed art too, that opens up a whole can of worms!

I really love old comic art, but two of my favorites are Little Nemo and Krazy Kat. I have a great book that I picked up at the NY Comicon of "unknown" comic art (comic strips by lesser known artists), probably mostly from the 30's - 50's. I also absolutely love the really old Peanuts, back when the characters were unbearably cute (before it became the Snoopy show), in fact that's where I first got the idea for my daughter's name (Violet). For regular comics there's tons that I like but some that stand out are Swamp Thing (more for the story than the artwork though), Iron Man (I love the old Jack Kirby Iron Man), Nexus, Love & Rockets, Dr. Strange, old Fantastic Four, Tomb of Dracula, and (not a comic book but one of the funniest strips out there) Steven by Doug Allen. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot still.

Back to cartoons - I'd forgotten about Bugs Bunny until I saw John's post - I did love Looney Tunes when I was a kid but they've unfortunately been ruined for me over the last few years. I also liked the Marvel Superheros cartoon that was on in the 60's (esp. Captain America & the Submariner), Gigantor (how could I have forgotten Gigantor!), Tobor the Eighth man, Felix the cat, & Kimba the White Lion. I don't know if this counts but the movie Fantastic Planet is another of my favorites. I'm sure I'll think of more!

For more modern cartoons I used to watch Sailor Moon & Pokemon with my son a few years ago, and of course I can't forget Adult Swim (Space Ghost Coast to Coast)! I had said I don't care for Disney but was overlooking Pixar - I agree with Amie about Wall-e, it was an amazing movie.

I love the Batman TV series, it's one of my favorites! I met Adam West at DragonCon a few months ago, unfortunately he was kind of a dick, big disappointment! He looked great for his age though!
