Intriguing line-up. I'm especially excited about Rodents. And Weeds is a nice idea, finding beauty in what some see as pests.
I do have a question about Squids(and Deep Sea Creatures), is this only for animals living below a certain depth in the ocean or strictly cephalopods, ie.octopus, nautilus? And what about whales & fish that are active in various depths? Are any coral reef fish included or just those that inhabit certain levels of the ocean?

All of this year's shows are listed on the show's page with a brief description. Take a peek.

Jackie - Deep sea is the lowest level is the ocean and that is what we are talking about. As giant squids can surface from the deep, any creature that can reach those depths, regardless of where it spends most of it's time, would count.

Does that make it a little clearer?

I would think the wording of my question would indicate I'm aware of the various levels of the ocean and that "deep sea" has a specific meaning. That's why I was asking if the show was more about depth or about cephalopods. From your answer, it's obviously about depth.
However, the show's title includes "deep sea monsters" which is almost an editorial comment, as there  are hardly any animals actually called monsters, except those such as the Gila Monster, the desert lizard. So "monster" in this sense sounds as if fictional or unauthenticated creatures, such as Nessie of Loch Ness are permitted. Or perhaps prehistoric animals such as pleisosaurs. Is that the case?
If not, perhaps deep sea "creatures" would be more accurate?

Hey Jackie -

I learned a long time ago to never assume that someone knows something simply because it appears that it does. It's better to explain.

As for Sea Monsters, it is more of a reference to the old tales of creatures found in the sea. Sea monster is a familiar term, is evocative, and as you know, many of the animals found in the lower levels of the sea are considered by many to be quite monstrous in appearance. We do not try to pack all the pertinent information into a show title because the prospectus will contain all the details and information an artist will need for a show. The titles are simply a basic idea put in a manner that we hope will pique interest. It appears that it did. ;)

- Melissa

Oh - and for anyone who is reading this, I will be posting some links with some of those deep sea denizens.

Ya know.. seriously.. would sponge bob count?  that would be hysterical as an entry!  or does it have to be "real"

I am afraid this show is for the scientifically verified. While Bikini Bottom is very real to many people, it doesn't qualify for this show. Not to mention that Bikini Bottom and it's residents do not live in the deepest level of the sea.

The prospectus, even partial as it looks now, is self-explanatory. It even includes the word "creatures."

But here's an idea for next year: "creatures with scary names": Gila Monster, Tasmanian Devil, Komodo Dragon... there must be more...

Heather - I have a small collection of fish salt shakers...  all though I'm not sure what part of the ocean they are supposed to be from, or that all of them are actually replicas of real fish...

Melissa, I forgot to thank you for your "in-depth" explanation of that show (pardon the pun). Appreciate it.
