OK, here we go, excuse the crappy hurried photo... This is a stoneware head I did in ceramics class in college. It scared the crap out of the kids for years and I had to keep them in a closet (there were 2) (the ceramic heads, not the kids... ) Thumbnail Image
Steph, the springs aren't hot (although there are hot ones in Tecopa, California, about 45 minutes from here). They were the springs that started settlement in the Las Vegas area... Carolyn, I think they're just hollow steel poles with holes in them. They did a really nice job on the Springs Preserve. It just opened last year. Before that the whole marshland area was closed to the public.
