Yes, the ripples (check out her portfolio, I could see them better there)  did you paint think with gesso first?

I had a hard time with this challenge, because I didn't really have a clear idea at the outset, and made several changes and alterations as I went along.   But anyway, here is my entry and the statement that goes with it

statement:

Since I first heard it way back in 1973, one of my all time favorite music albums is Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks 'Last Train to Hicksville, the Home of Happy Feet'. It's hard to pigeon-hole into a specific genre, combining elements of jazz, blues, country, Latin, and probably other things that I can't put my finger on!
Every tune on this album is a sing-along, toe-tapping experience for me! Because of this, my family prefers that I only listen to it when I'm alone in my car. ...Fortunately, I have lots of opportunities for solo travel!
I made this painting for the Music In Me Abstract Challenge on the EBSQ member's forum.

edited to add the title:  Traveling Blues

oH, I love it! The colors are just amazing.  I like the swirl to it also.

Love yours too, Angela.  Love that ripple by her hand.

Beth I love this. I'm amazed at how you can even manage to soften primary colors.

Great colors, Beth!  Your eye is really movec around and around on across the canvas, kind-of physically lyrical, if that makes any sense.

I live 30 minutes north east of Hicksville (seriously, check a map!)

Well, since I'm mainly an abstract artist, this challenge is high priority. I see that there aren't many entries. My entry is based on one specific song by Queensryche - a band that many people consider a "hair band" or "90's has-beens". On the contrary, they have been a big influence on progressive metal with probably the most prolific frontman in rock, Geoff Tate. As I was creating this piece a few years ago, I delved into my CD collection & popped on this song "Another Rainy Night". It was a particularly rain-soaked weekend & all the factors converged to bring me into a mood that is expressed by the painting. Picture yourself staring out a pane of glass into the deluge. Enjoy!

These 2 lines sum up the painting:
"Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound
Raindrops taste like tears without the pain."

Don't slam the door, on your way out
Don't leave without saying goodbye.
Another long distance night alone,
you leave me wanting, always leave me wanting more.
Last word today, coming home to stay?
Wouldn't that be nice, for a while?

But now my take-out food is growing cold,
and the candle's burned a hole in the floor.
And I'm still waiting for the ring of the phone.

I'm all alone
It's just another rainy night, without you.
Guess I'll leave a light on for you.
It's just another rainy night, without you.

Listen, there's a foghorn blowing
from the coast tonight
Remember making love in the rain?
Strange how laughter looks like crying with no sound
Raindrops taste like tears without the pain.
I'm not much without you, can't leave if I wanted to.
Maybe that's why you stay around

But tonight I'll sit here tending the fire
and pace the floor one hundred times in an hour.
And check the voice-mail for a message you've called.

I'm all alone
It's just another rainy night, without you.
Waiting by the phone. Alone.
It's just another rainy night, without you.
Guess I'll leave a light on for you.

I know I've said it before
hate the sound of the closing door
and your footsteps walking away.

But now my take-out food is growing cold,
and the candle's burned a hole in the floor.
And I'm still waiting for the ring of the phone.

I'm all alone
It's just another rainy night, without you.
Waiting by the phone. Alone.
And it's another rainy night, without you.
Guess I'll leave a light on for you.

It's just another rainy night, another rainy night,
another rainy night without you.

That is so funny! Someone I am dating plays in a band with someone who used to play with Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks. I went to see them last night.

Ok.. I have 2 entries!!..

First one.. was started.. and then I put it away as I had a hard time with it..and came back to it.

I started this one by listening to calmer music.. of which one of the songs 1973 by James Blunt!!..  (thanks Muriel.. that guy is now one of my favorites!! )

So.. calling it Sky of Dreams  16x20

Yeah Heather!!!!  You get a rose on your nose for two entries!!!!

Of course, you know I like both from the wip thread, and of course two paintings are coming from the energizer bunny of the painting world!

David - I haven't thought about Queensryche in a long time!  Your painting looks like it could have been the album cover!  I like the song Silent Lucidity, but that's probably everybody's favorite from Queensryche, LOL!

Yeh Lisa ... good tune. I had the pleasure of meeting the band down at Jones Beach ... those guys really give back to the fans. I sent drummer Scott Rockenfield a small painting a few years ago when I found out he was a collector.

I found this very hard to do. It's a digital piece done from a previous drawing.
