Gecko was one of the many names of an import glass produced, I think, in Mexico. It was also sold as Particularly Tiffany at SGW. I've not seen any new stock of either in ages, though some suppliers still have bits and pieces of old stock. It shows up very consistently in the Chinese imported panels, so my guess would be that they are exclusively selling to the manufacturing market now. If you can hook up with someone with an Ed Hoy account, they probably still have quite a lot to choose from, but other than that, you may be better off looking for a substitute for the time being.

Darlene,
I thought you fell off the planet.  It's so nice to see you again.  I was just thinking of you this past week as I was literally in your back yard for the past 5 days.  My nieces were at Bolletari (probably spelling it wrong) IMG academy for tennis and my sister and I went to stay with them for a week.

You know, the stained glass industry is just frustrating me more and more. The quality of glass seems to be going down hill in the colors and more and more are being made in China. So many colors and makers are no longer available and it's sometimes hard to stay inspired. I was just in Michigan for a few days and was going to pop in to my old glass shop and I asked her what her take was on it all. She told me that the bottom line was that people can't make a living doing stained glass anymore because the demand for it has just totally dropped off.  I guess people don't even put windows in their homes like they used to.

I do know that the fused glass industry has picked up and companies like Bullseye and Armstrong and Uroborus are concentrating more on their fused glass lines.

I've been noticing a come back in mosaics and have seriously been considering that avenue.

I don't know what the answers are. I keep plugging away and trying to not let it get me so frustrated.

I haven't seen Gecko glass in a long time. Actually, I don't think anyone I ever got glass from ever even carried it.  So good luck with your search.

It's nice to see you again,
Dianne

Hi Dianne, good to see you again too! You're certainly right about the upswing in availability of fused glass ... it's everywhere now! Where a few years ago you could barely find any. I did find a place that sells Gecko but decided not to buy any ... I found a piece in my studio and remembered that the stuff is a real bear to cut. But I really liked their two color wispy glasses. Seems like almost everything is from China these days.

So what are you making now? Chimes? Yardstakes?

Darlene, try http://www.southernfront.com/glass2006/enter.html.  I love gecko's iridized glass.  Just beautiful.  It usually takes this place about 3 days to get things out the door.

Thanks Andrea. Have you found their glass difficult to cut?

A little bit. It seems softer than most glass, but has a bit of an uneven surface.

I know this is a really old thread, but I just found a place that claims to have Gecko and it's now fusible.  Glasscraft.net

I don't use personally, except on the rare occasion I pick up a piece when I buy a box lot, but I think I'm glad I didn't throw away my sample set.
