I am a member of Jacketflap. If anyone is interested in connecting with other illustrators this is a wonderful site.
An author saw my artwork and has recently asked to talk to me about illustrating for her upcoming book!

Thanks, I'll check that out, I would love to do children's book illustration.

Re. your painting, can you resize it smaller? It's hard to see it when it's so big I have to scroll to see the whole thing). Thanks & congratulations on both your book & the other one!

I am currently working on some sketches depicting talking trees for an upcoming childrensbook. I was on cloud nine when a writer from Texas asked me to illustrate for her. I will keep you guys posted....I would love feedback ;-)

Congratulations! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do.

Just curious, how do you work out payment for that sort of thing? I assume you have contracts & such, right? I haven't signed up for Jacket Flap yet but I did poke around, I was a little confused about how it's set up. For example, I wanted to look at just children's book illustrators but couldn't seem to filter it that way (I could see all illustrators, or a random sampling, but I couldn't seem to filter out just children's). I'll try again today.

thank you so much! I am so excited because I didn't realize that someone could be looking for an illustrator or a writer on that site....I have submitted endless times to traditional publishers via mail as a writer but not as an artist....no luck with the writing so far......
when your on the jacketflap website click on community at the top of the page then click on search members...then on the left side of the page will have the categories....writers, illustrators, publishers, agents ect.....this is a great way to meet other people .....if your a member I would love to have you on my friend list
Out of the 3 paintings I did this morning I only like one..I will post it this week for a critique....
ciao

Thanks Nata - I saw that but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to how the illustrators are listed, and no way of filtering out just children's book illustrators - or am I missing something?

I'm looking forward to seeing your work. Are the other two not salvageable? If you post them for critique as well it could be helpful for you, someone might be able to offer insight on how to fix them.

I didn't see any link to look for just childrens books....I am not sure if the website has that feature...I will look into it...I will post all three for a critique thank you....try clicking on books at the top and then sort through age groups...maybe that will narrow it down

Thank you Christi ;-) the treaty oak is still alive in Texas...the tree was poisoned in 1989 ...two thirds of the tree survives....the writer wrote a story about the tree...I googled the tree and saw it is now surrounded by a fence and a stone and only half of tree survives.
The writer wanted the tree to look magestic .....I would assume this book would be for older children because smaller children would not understand the concept of someone trying to harm the tree.

Donna, What a wonderful story that goes with the Treaty Oak.  I like your bottom illustration the best. Sounds like a lot of fun to illustrate a childrens book.
